Robot Tank Wheels (YP100 frame)
Description
I designed these wheels in Fusion for a "YP100" tank chassis I purchased on Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B09KKRY84S/ There are many other tank chassis available online that use the same track/wheel design. So this thing is likely to fit other vehicles that use the same plastic track design. The original wheels had a tendency to slide off of the bearings during rougher offroad excursions. So I made these wheels with the original dimensions, and added some holes to bolt the bearing on securely. Each wheel can use 8x M3-10 bolts. I recommend using all 8 holes for the 2 front wheels and the 6 bottom wheels to help lower the CG. The top idler wheel you can probably get away with just 2 bolts; I decided to use 4 bolts on my idlers for aesthetics. No supports are necessary. I printed mine in PETG with 0.3mm thick layers, and otherwise standard settings for my 0.4mm nozzle. Assembly is straight forward. Insert a bearing then drive the bolts. The bolts need to be snug not necessarily tight to do their job. You can optionally tap each hole with an M3 tap to make the job easier. If you decide to tap, I recommend doing it with a bearing installed to keep the tap from intruding into the bearing seat. Another tip to ease assembly... cut off the L part of a spare allen wrench, and use it in an electric drill to quickly drive the bolts. I had a few wheels where one or 2 of the bolts stripped the plastic. It's ok if a few get stripped on each wheel; the rest of the good threads should secure the bearing and prevent movement that might back one of the stripped bolts out. I've tested these things for well over 2 miles of distance in mixed offroad terrain. They work flawlessly, giving a much more enjoyable and care free driving experience.
