V2 Minimalistic Laptop folding feet - heavy duty landing gear 40mm tall
Description
Minimalistic easy to print and assemble folding feet for laptop rear side elevation and better air flow - heavy duty version with many new features. It's an evolved V2 version of initial model: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:6752996 New design is inspired by spacecrafts landing gear, intended for use on various surfaces. Features: - Heavy duty construction to support heavier and larger laptops - Elevation is 40mm to address much longer length of bigger laptops - Large flat foot area is distributing weight and providing higher stability on soft surfaces - Self-aligning "landing angle", allowing secure placing on uneven surfaces - Can be mounted over the ventilation area, to provide extra guard of proper ventilation flow on soft surfaces when extracted - Multi-hinged design to maintain ultra-compactness, also enforced with steel rods made from a regular paperclip Print parts A and B, then cut steel rods from straightened paperclip of following lengths: - 2x 20mm - 1x 11mm - 2x 7mm Hint: to keep steel rods in place securely, flatten about 2mm of one rod end prior to inserting other end. Connect all parts together as shown on pictures of collapsed foot. Then add 1mm thick strong adhesive foam/tape to the both mount ends, and attach to the laptop while in collapsed position. If your adhesive tape is thinner, use few layers to reach 1mm, otherwise foot will not securely collapse. So far I printed and tested first prototype on my Lenovo laptop in the central area over the ventilation. It works excellent and supports the weight well. I'll later design smaller version of it for lower laptop elevation angle. Another future improvement will be a thin frame to connect both mounts together for preventing adhesive peeling.
