MGTF Side Air Intake Scoop
Description
I'd looked at other side air intake designs usually made of hard plastic and it struck me that using an inflexible material meant the design had to be curved which of course complicates the design and printing. Also a panel sticking out of the side of the car made from solid plastic would be prone to damage from hedges and other roadside objects. I therefore designed this scoop which can be printed flat out of polyurethane, which when pushed into the intake would be forced into a curved shape. Being TPU it would be tougher and less likely to impact damage. My intention is to secure the scoop with 3mm or 4mm bolts (depending upon the clearance available on the inside of the bodywork) and washers through holes melted or drilled through the semi-circular tabs and original plastic body panel. I hope to buy a 3D textured print bed which will transfer to the outside of the scoop to look less DIY and more like an aftermarket product. I'm in the process of reassembling my car as part of a major refurb of the rear mechanics and will update this design with photos of the scoop when fitted to my car.
