WindhamGraves Electric Delivery Van (1-148)

WindhamGraves Electric Delivery Van (1-148)

Description

Mr. Musk's followers probably won't believe it, but e-mobility existed long before Elon was born. A beautiful example of this historic fact was modelled by Windham Grave, a 3D designer I admire greatly: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:5703743 It’s the Harrods Electric Van from 1939. According to some records Harrods had been using American Walker electric vans to deliver the department store's goods since 1919, but from 1936 they began building their own e-vans. This example has survived, and it can drive 19-25mph with a 60V motor of only 3.5HP: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XY3flRm-KW0 Windham makes his models for wargaming, i.e. as a single block. But painted windows are something of a no-go for model railways. That's why I took the model and cleared the windows and created an interior. For easier painting I made wheels separate and to bring more life to the layout, I created two versions of the body with open doors. And now there are two figures, the driver and an errand boy. Since the Harrods lettering is a trademark, I obviously cannot reproduce it without permission, but I don't know many model railways with a London theme anyway. So, I created decals for some imaginary companies that might have used such a delivery van to. The decals are included as a PDF in various scales for DIY-printing. I had fun with this remix and maybe someone else has use for such a state-of-the-art vehicle on their layout or in their diorama. And of course: Many Thanks to Windham for his work and sharing with us! Models sized for British n-scale (1:148). Conversion values: Continental N-scale, 1:160 -> 92.5% TT-gauge, 1:120 -> 123% HO/H0-gauge, 1:87 -> 170% OO/00-gauge, 1:76 -> 195% S-gauge, 1:64 -> 231% O-gauge, 1:48 -> 308% Note: Windham is modelling on the buy by time base.
