Savage Mark/Mk ii and 93 Cheek/Chin Rest/Riser VERSION 2

Savage Mark/Mk ii and 93 Cheek/Chin Rest/Riser VERSION 2

Description

This is a Cheek rest/riser for the Savage Mark/mk 2/ii FVSR etc. Compatibility: This should work on the plastic stocked Savage 93 (post-~2009/"e-receiver") as well. It will not work on a Savage 64, its close but would need modifications (95% compatible). Forward: I am releasing this for non-commercial use. The goal is to assist people in avoiding putting a heavy $120 wood replacement stock on a ~$200 rifle as these rifles have notoriously bad cheek/chin weld when equipped with a scope. I made my own printed tools and took over 60 measurements on the comb to get the curves right (Still not perfect). I sell this online (ted3682); if you try to sell it I will start selling at a loss to out compete you, my goal is to bring more people into the hobby and cover my time, shipping losses/insurance, printer maintenance/supplies not make a profit. Old version: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:5873702 Installation (Of prior revision without the cover): Install video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=piMcDYBjzsM Read all of the notes/description before printing. (You can do it, I believe in you.) Change log (TLDR/ADHD ver): 1. Increased file quality (Substantially, now also an *HQ file set that is perfectly smooth.) 2. Added: A cover, 45 degree tapers, Tape relief cut Change log (Formal): 1. Increased quality (file size has increased). 2. Added a cover; removable using a cleaning rod to provide clearances for bolt removal while attached. 3. Added 45 degree tapers to holes to facilitate higher print success rate. 4. Added relief cut for foam adhesive tape to allow closer riser to rifle adhesion. Tools needed: 1. A Roberson screw driver or bit (Size: SQ2/R2) to remove the buttpad (Might beable to use Phillips) 2. A toenail clipper (To get a very flush cut on the ziptie) Parts list (BOM): 1. The two original screws that hold the buttplate on (Uncertain on their specs) 2. One (1) Homedepot ziptie "HDX" brand 11" in length (UPC code: 4715409150817, homedepot.com/p/307799372). Mine have "G14K" molded into them. The Homedepot "Commercial Electric" 11" ones will probably also work fine, as will Walmart "Hypertough" 11". Be careful buying zipties online, they might not be the right size. I suggest tightening the ziptie from the left side of the rifle if you shoot right side/handed. (So its out of the way) 3. 3b. Alternatively, 3M Super-Strength Molding Tape, 03614, 1/2 in x 15 ft, 1 Roll Recommended material: Polymaker PLA Pro (or better) Operation of the cover relies on some bendability. If you use a more rigid material you must print the cover with thinner infill and/or less walls. Riser recommended slicer settings (Bambu Studio): Sparse Infill density: 15-20% (Optionally add a modifier in the slicer at the horizontal to vertical transition for 50%) Sparse infill pattern: Adaptive Cubic Enable Support: Disabled Layer height: 0.12 (Your choice) Seam position: Back Model Orientation: Face top of model (cover size) to front of printer Order of wall: outer/inner Cover recommended slicer settings (Bambu Studio): Layer height: 0.12 (Your choice) Sparse infill density: 100%, or 30% with a modifier at the thinnest middle section for 100% Brim type: No brim Model Orientation: Same as rest (“top” to front of printer, or however you did the Rest) Seam position: Aligned Operation of the cover relies on some bendability. If you use a more rigid material you must print the cover with thinner infill and/or less walls or modify the model as needed. Troubleshooting: If fitment of the cover is poor; reprint with Z-seams away from mating surfaces. If fitment is still poor, reprint with model shrunk 0.25 - 0.5% on all three axis. If fitment is still poor, even after printer calibration, buy a better printer, modify the model or wet sand the cover. Improvements: Sanding it and painting it or putting on some “goon” or other grip tape (Body safe) would probably make it less slick.
