FOXWELL RT100 Thermal Camera Case

FOXWELL RT100 Thermal Camera Case

Description

Recently, I got a thermal camera that I've been using frequently, and I quickly realized that the front lens is quite prone to scratches. Unfortunately, I accidentally put a small scratch on the lens, which made me realize I needed a protective solution. Since I enjoy 3D modeling and printing, I decided to design a custom case for the camera to protect it from further damage. The design process took some time, as I wanted to ensure a good balance between protection and ease of use. After carefully measuring the camera, I modeled a case that would be snug but still allow the camera to be easily inserted and removed. The fit is a little loose by design—this was intentional to allow the camera to slide in with just the right angle. Once you find that angle, the camera slips in smoothly, making it easy to insert or remove without too much friction. To hold the case together, I repurposed four screws from an old broken laptop I had taken apart. These screws were quite small, and I pre-modeled the holes at 2mm to accommodate them. If you don’t have such small screws available, you might need to drill the holes larger to fit more common screw sizes. The screws worked well to securely fasten the case together without adding too much bulk or weight. To address any internal movement, I added small foam pieces inside the case. These foam pads help ensure the camera doesn't bounce around, providing additional protection from impact or accidental drops. I also designed the case to feature a small support beside the USB connector. This is an important feature because the USB port can be vulnerable when the camera is being handled or moved. By holding the cable securely in place, this section helps prevent unnecessary twisting or strain on the port, which should extend the life of the connector. While the overall appearance of the case isn't particularly striking, it fulfills its purpose effectively. The focus was on functionality, so while it might not be the most aesthetically pleasing, it does exactly what it needs to—protect the camera. It's a simple, sturdy solution that keeps the camera safe from scratches, drops, and everyday wear and tear. I’m happy with how it turned out, and while there’s always room for improvement, the case serves its purpose well for my FOXWELL RT100. If anyone else owns a similar thermal camera and is worried about protecting it, this case could be a useful solution. I hope it helps others keep their equipment safe from damage and ensures their camera stays in good working condition for longer.
