80mm fan cover upgrade for Qidi Plus 4 motherboard cooling
Description
An 80mm fan upgrade main-board cover plate for the Qidi Plus 4 printer. It allows the stock 40mm fan to be replaced with an 80mm one. Recommended Fans -------------------------- Recommended replacement fans are any 24VDC 2-pin power connector 80mm fan that is up to 25mm in depth. Choose a fan that draws 5W or less (basically 0.2A or less) to prevent overloading of the main-board fan header. Simply unplug the stock 40mm fan's power connector and plug the 80mm fan's power connector in its place. Mounting ----------- Re-use the stock main-board cover's screws to mount the replacement mainboard cover. The fan and the fan covers (see below) can be attached using either M4 bolts and washers, or by using self-tapping type fan mounting screws that most PC case fans are attached to cases with. Fan Intake Covers ----------------------- This repo offers 2 main-board cover designs. One is a more traditional cover with large slits for good ventilation, while the other offers a hex-patterned ventilation design. Both covers deliberately leave the fan's blades exposed to allow the user to apply their choice of fan intake protection as suits their needs. Two example models are also provided for a printable fan intake cover: 1. A larger downwards sloping duct. The 4 main goals of this duct is to be very free flowing, to protect all but the most determined fingers, protect the intake from purge material being ejected from the back of the printer, and to encourage the fan to draw upon cooler air for its intake by moving the intake more away from the main-board exhaust slots. 2. A shorter and much more compact fan intake cover. This cover design has many fine angled slats with openings of 4mm in width to strongly limit anything entering the fan intake area. The cover can be oriented with the slats pointing downwards to essentially guarantee that no finger nor purge ejecta can reach the fan blades. This design is a little more restrictive on airflow than first design and does not make any attempt to limit warm air recirculating from the main-board exhaust ports, but it is a good choice for space restrictive installations.
