Chad box for the Facit 4070 paper tape punch
Description
This is a replacement chad box for the Facit 4070 tape punch. Second hand ones often have the chad box missing, as mine did. I designed this for mine, but hopefully it will be useful to other owners as well. I made mine all in black, to have a transparent insert fitted in the front to see the chad level. The clear insert should be 110mm tall x 29mm wide. I have some clear dividers from old parts drawers; alternatively, thick clear or translucent Plasticard should be fine. An alternate body is included without the window slot, if that is preferred or you with to use transparent or translucent material. The box lid should be solidly glued in place. The back panel fits with the ribs to the inside of the box and can either be glued or screwed (using the holes to pilot through into the fixing flanges, then countersinking the ones in the back and using small countersunk screws). The lid or all parts could also be painted to match the punch body. I found the best orientation for printing the body was with it near upright, leaning around 30 degrees towards the open side. Draw organic/tree support on the full height of the rear inner flanges and use a brim. That worked well, with the very bottom edge only external part needing cleaning up. I printed the lid open side down, again with organic support, and the back with the flat side down. The box hangs on the ledge on the front of the machine and is a snug fit. Press it towards the machine and down to attach. Pull slightly away at the bottom and lift it to remove. If the fit to the machine is too tight, chamfer the inside edge of the lid back slightly with a file.
