LEGO Retro Radio set 10335 bluetooth amp and speaker mount

LEGO Retro Radio set 10335 bluetooth amp and speaker mount

Description

I saw that someone had fitted a Raspberry Pi into the LEGO Retro Radio set 10334 (link at the end). That version was pretty cool as it uses the existing buttons to run the Raspberry Pi. But it is obviously fairly expensive to get a Raspberry Pi, locks up a Raspberry Pi and requires remodelling the inside of the radio. I decided I wanted something non-destructive and cheap! So I bought a little bluetooth amp and speaker set from Ali Express and used a single speaker in the set. Initially, I just dumped the unit in, but then I decided to make a little mount to fit the mobile phone holder and tidy it up and it came out pretty well, so I' thought I'd put it here in case anyone wants it. Spoilers: 1) The sound quality isn't amazing. It's not bad for background music or internet radio, but then I guess it is supposed to be a retro radio, which would have been worse! 2) Only one speaker fits without modding the LEGO build, it doesn't bother me as stereo in something that small is pretty pointless. 3) The mount is pretty close but not fully perfect as this is a hobby, not a day job and I have to constantly relearn Fusion! 4) I happened to have a power supply with a 90 degree adaptor, so that's what it's designed for. This may not fit other power supplies without adaptation. I have put the Fusion file in in case you want to play. You will need: LEGO Retro Radio set 10334 - https://www.lego.com/en-gb/product/retro-radio-10334 Bluetooth amp with speakers (you'll only need one of the speakers) - https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005002609516756.html 4 x 8mm M3 screws to attach the speaker. 1 x retro radio mount print 4 x retro radio washers (I drop them in the speaker holes in the mount when printing) It's all fairly self-evident. 1) Print the mount. PLA or whatever is fine. I use 20% fill and support as there is a brim. 2) Wire up the speaker and amp power. Check clearances on the mount. Bind the amp to your phone bluetooth. Manual here - not quite the same version but the instructions are the same: https://m.media-amazon.com/images/I/91qm5pgwWcL.pdf 3) Attach the speaker using a washer and 8mm M3 on each corner. 4) Attach the amp using the amp screws through the mount. As long as you use the long screws on the back and the short ones on the front, it'll work. 5) Lift the mobile phone holder to full extent. 6) Slide into the mobile phone holder and check positioning, it should sit flat along the bottom. You'll know when it's right. 7) Route the power wire down the middle over the red block. 8) Replace the back of the radio 9) Enjoy! If you're interested in the original Raspberry Pi version that got me thinking about this, it is here: https://www.sean.co.uk/raspberry_pi/lego_retro_radio.shtm
