Inlay Spool (BambuLab)

Inlay Spool (BambuLab)

Description

This is what I like to call the Inlay Spool–A reusable spool intended for BambuLab refill rolls with a little ridge inlaid on the outside to put a ring made of the plastic you printed. It’s made to be light enough that when printed with ABS, the material costs are less than what you would pay to upgrade from a refill to a roll with a spool on BambuLab’s website. I recommend printing in ABS so that you can put it in a filament dryer without worrying too much about it hitting the glass transition temperature and drooping–just make sure you make all the necessary preparations and adjustments you need while printing with ABS. Then, after spooling your filament of choice, print out 2 rings with that filament, and glue it in the ridges around the edge of the spool. If you use a different material than ABS for the ring, you might find it doesn’t fit perfectly due to thermal expansion/contraction. I found that if you glue it in and press it down on a table, you can set it in place just fine. If you’re using the 3mf file, make sure to change the 2nd color to whatever filament you’re using! It’s set to ABS by default, but you may need to switch it for your needs. Finally, there’s an ovular space to put the sticker included in the refill (unlike me, you may not want to print in black if you want the sticker to be more visible), and opposite that you can glue the actual name of the filament that is written on the filament box, if you really want to go that far (or you could just write it there, do whatever). And that’s it! There’s a video below that goes over it in detail, but overall it’s pretty straightforward. Video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XIHXyj8e39I&ab_channel=CarlThePumpkinMan
