Leaf Spring Relocation Plate or Lift/Lowering Block
Description
A relocation plate is an easy way to relocate an axle forward of back relative to the leaf springs. The plate has a raised pin that fits into the center hole of the spring perch on the axle. Then it has one or more holes for the spring center pin head to fit into that are offset some distance from the raised pin. Having two holes at different offsets provides multiple options for relocating the axle and by flipping the plate around you can move the axle forward or back by either hole offset. A common use for these plates is to better center an axle in a wheel well opening to allow for better tire clearance. One application is on the Mazda B2200 2WD pickups using the Belltech lowering springs. These springs leave the axle offset about 3/4" - 1" from stock. Also, many B2200 pickup owners also want to lower the ride height beyond what the lowering springs offer. Since these pickups use a spring-under-axle setup, a taller block between the spring perch and spring will raise the axle up above the spring and thus lower the rear end of the vehicle. For simply relocating the axle, a thinner plate of 3/8" - 1/2" is more commonly used. You'll need the plate to be at least as thick as the head of the spring center pin is tall since that center pin head needs to fit into the plate when it's sitting next to the spring perch. With this design, there's no need to disassemble the spring pack. The pin on the plate fits into the existing hole in the spring perch. Then the center pin head on the springs fits into the hole in the plate. Note, it may be necessary to drill new offset holes in the spring plate that clamps the springs to the axle. This hole is to accommodate the nut on the other end of the center pin. Also, be sure to check how much extra u-bolt thread you have when sizing the height of the relocation plates. There are several fabrication options mentioned in the OpenSCAD file.
