Bone Lord BJD
Description
This particular bought of insanity was inspired by me wanting to make a doll with an exposed skeleton with the elastic hidden in the spine. Then I decided that wasn't enough, so I made him a partially skeletal Drider (spider centaur) as well. Thus, The Bone Lord. Some of the files did not size correctly when I printed thanks to me switching printers partway through, but I will make note of what to look out for when you are printing your own. Bones Ok, so for printing this I basically took the boney spider abdomen from CupioPaxMiniatures's Bone Spider and modified to work with dmstlrc's Spider (BJD). For the skeletal torso i used graphix25's Mr Bones for the ribs, right arm, and hip bones. I removed the spine because I needed something a bit thicker, so I essentially hollowed out cbabbage's Spine Candle Holder and sized it to fit. The hip bones were attached to the spider torso and I cut some notches into them to help the spine sit securely, but this didn't work thanks to my sizing difficulties. I loaded it up with glue and included a thick wire from the spine into the spider torso, but the connection is still weaker than I hoped. Once I was done with most of the torso I used Tinkercad to essentially cut out a section where the human flesh would be glued so I could do them in different resins. Maybe not the best idea since they did break apart when I dropped them once, but the glue had only half cured so that probably didn't help matters. Human Flesh The human part of the doll was pretty straight forward. I used 3 sources, though only 2 are available to others. The head I used is "Kyrei" by Lost_Chronicle, but they have deleted their account since I downloaded it so I will not be including the file here out of respect to them. For the flesh hand I used RenatoT's "Devilman Hand" but modified it to work as a bjd hand, and I used the arm parts and chest from ixode's Male Ball Jointed Doll. I cut it in half a bit roughly because I was trying to make him look a bit decayed, then when it was printed glued the skeleton torso to it. Make sure the spine hole lines up with the neck hole or you will have a hard time stringing the head. I also added a bar to the arm socket so that the arm could be directly strung to it since the bone arm does not require elastic. After printing I realized this human flesh part was a touch too big compared to the bone half, but the difference wasn't enough to bother me. Spider Flesh The spider torso has a few alterations. It is made from dmstlrc's Spider (BJD) First is the centaur bit. Essentially I cut a hole in the top, stuck the hip bones in, and hoped for the best there. With enough glue and that thick wire it is holding rather well. On both the top and bottom half of the spider torso I also added loops. These loops allowed me to string the human torso directly to the upper torso without attaching it to the bottom, have an anchor for the surprise large wire, and provide additional support for the spider abdomen with the bottom loop. I also plan on using a bit of elastic to attach the loops when I am finally closing him up. The Spider (BJD) body snaps together well and feel secure, but I want to be extra secure. The one sizing problem I had with these parts were actually the legs and teeth. Essentially the type 1 pieces in each were a touch too big for the type 0 pieces. The type 1 & 2 pieces fit together beautifully, but I got a bit of damage in the type 0 pieces when putting the doll together. I recommend making the size 1 & 2 pieces a touch smaller to make the fit easier. For stringing the legs I recommend looking at dmstlrc's Spider (BJD) listing, they have an instructional video! I also included some pictures from when I strung him if you just want to wing it with barebones information. Good luck with making your own Bone Lord! I plan on making skull masks for mine using the various masks here on Thingiverse, maybe a basket of skulls like in my initial plan. Happy Printing!
