Carpenter's Couch

Carpenter's Couch

Description

Disclaimer: I'm not a trained or licensed carpenter, but I'm confident, that a skilled carpenter can build this in less than 15 min with a nail gun. Weight limit: unknown (>170 kg) Part list: - Seat frame: -- 1 m x 60 cm OSB 18 mm or greater -- 2x 1 m 2x4 (front & back) -- 2x 52,4 cm 2x4 (sides) - Legs -- 2x 63,1 cm 2x4 (front) -- 2x 90 cm 2x4 (back) - Armrest base: -- 2x 60 cm 2x4 (2x4 cutout for back leg) - Armrest top: -- 2x 60 cm x 20 cm 2x4 (2x4 cutout for back leg) - Cushion stop back: -- 1x 1,076 m ~1x4 (top) -- 1x ~1 m ~1x4 (bottom) Seat top height from the bottom: 40 cm History: My partner wanted a small couch with a harder seat cushion than most commercially available ones. She created a rough 3D model of what she imagined, but that would have taken much more material than necessary. I created the much more reduced version you see here. The build took ~3 days for a beginner like me, when using screws (60x4 T20 Spax). Aside from the leg unevenness from cutting errors, the couch is really sturdy. The 100 cm x 50 cm x 8 cm cushions were ordered on Amazon. They are outdoor rated and not strictly necessary for this build. I named this project "Carpenter's Couch", because it doesn't fall under the principles I would commonly assign to woodworking. The design trades finesse, beauty and skill for simplicity and standardized material availability. I imagined a carpenter on site during lunch time missing proper seating arrangements building this from scraps.
