The Monument To The 74Th Pennsylvania Infantry Is A Rarity In Civil War Statuary, Depicting Not A Fighting Soldier Or A Marching Soldier, But One In The Throes Of Death. In A Pose Based On The Popular "Dying Gaul," A Widely Reproduced Roman Statue Popular In The Late 18Th To Mid-19Th Century, The Color Sergeant Slumps To The Ground Mortally Wounded. The Monument Was Dedicated On July 2Nd, 1888. In 2003, It Was Struck By An Suv And Shattered Into Multiple Pieces. Since Restored, It Stands On Howard Avenue On The 11Th Corps' Line Of Battle North Of Gettysburg.
