Ultimaker 2 Back Cover (Low Profile)

Ultimaker 2 Back Cover (Low Profile)

Description

**I Added The Back Cover Square Edges And Bearing Clamp Square Edges For Anyone Who Is Interested** I Recently Built Jason'S Awesome Um2 Aluminum Extrusion Printer. I Purchased The Um0 Heated Bed Upgrade Kit As Per The Bom. After Installation, I Noticed That The Top Of The Plywood Cover Would Come Into Contact With My X Axis Belt Towards The Rear Of The Printer On The First Few Layers. I Also Really Wasn'T Impressed With The Quality Of The Laser Cut Plywood Parts. I See A Few Other People Have Designed Back Covers But They All Appear To Be Roughly The Same Height As The Plywood Cover. I'Ve Been Thinking Of A Work-Around For Quite A While. I Set The Set The Idea Aside And Continued Printing Without A Back Cover On The Bed. Another Thing I Noticed Is That The Aluminum Table Itself Will Oscillate When Printing. I Originally Designed The Bearings Clamps As Part Of A Reinforcement For The Print Table. I Need A Way To Add A Structure That Will Tie The Front Of The Table To The Bearings. I'M Still Working On That. An Idea Then Popped In My Head To Design A Back Cover To Hide The Support Structure And Also Not Interfere With The Belts Or Motors In Any Way. This Is What I Have So Far. The Cover Itself Does Not Sit All The Way Down On The Table Like The Plywood Version. Assembly Is Fairly Simple. All The Hardware Is 3Mm. Two M3 Nuts Are Placed In The Traps On The Inside Of The Clamps. I Used A Small Dab Of Super Glue To Hold Them In Place During Installation. You Can Use Whatever Or Maybe You Won'T Need Anything. I Found That The Nuts Would Fall Out While I Was Starting The Other Four Main Bolts That Hold The Clamp Together. M3X10Mm Bolts Should Work For The Clamps. After Installing The Clamps, I Secured The Cover With (4) M3X8Mm Socket Cap Bolts. For The Cover You May Want To Use A Pan Head Bolt Or Something Similar As The Socket Cap Bolts Don'T Sit Perfectly Flush With The Face Of The Cover. The Cover I Show In The Pictures Is The First Iteration. It Is Square On All Edges. The Files For Download Have The New Cover. I Added 4Mm To The Height To Make It Fill The Space A Little Better. I Have Also Rounded A Few Of The Edges. Let Me Know If You Want The Square Version. The Cover Is 4Mm Thick. I Have Also Integrated A Mount For An Led Light Diffusing Box Behind The Ultimaker Cutout. I Will Upload The File For The Diffuser Soon. You Can See What It Looks Like On My Profile Picture. It'S Not A Perfect Diffusion And Is Still A Wip. Please Keep In Mind I Am Very New To 3D Design And Fairly New To 3D Printing. This Cover Is Working Well For Me And I Hope It Can Work Out For You Too. I Added The Led Back Case And Two Sizes Of Diffusion Plates. Right Now I Only Have A Single 1Mm White Plate Installed. There Is A 4Mm Space For The Plates. You Could Add Any Combination Of Colors In Either 1Mm Thick Or 2Mm Thick Plates To Equal 4Mm Total.
