Duckietown Duckiebot Motor Mount
Description
This Is A Motor Mount For Robots Described In: Http://Duckietown.Org The Purpose Of This Part, Is To Mount The Plastic Motors To The Dagu Chassis. The Original Motor Mounting Method Is By Means Of Using 4 Red Little Plastic Pieces That Hang From The Top And The Motors Are Squeezed With Screws. We Observed This Caused Problems: A. After Wheel Calibration Is Done, And The Robot Is Used For A While, The Calibrations Will Change, Because The Motor Mount Will Move. B. By Using Screws To Mount The Motors From The Side, It Squeezes The Gearbox. This Causes The Initial Power That Is Required The Motor To Move Vary. It Will Require A Lot Of Current Just To Move First, Then Require Less Current. So, If You Squeeze Those Screws Too Much, It Will Cause The Robot To Make A S Pattern, Caused By Algorithm Trying To Correct The Motors. C. The Red Little Parts Protrude The Chassis, Obstructing Battery Mounting. So We Designed This Part. This Is A Work In Progress, And We Have Not Really Achieved To Solve A. After Printing Pop In 5 Plastic M3 Nuts To The Bottom Of The Part That Will Mount The Piece To The Chassis. Use 4 M3 Metal Nuts For The Motor Mount Holes. Notice That M3 Metal Nuts Are Slightly Smaller. Pop Them In, And Glue Them. I Used Few Drops Of Abs Cement. The Photos With The White Parts Show How The Screws Should Be Put In Place, Mount It To The Chassis, It Will Guide The Motors Nicely. Then Attach The 2 Little Parts To The Sides, And Screw Them In - The Plates Should Just Touch The Motors, Do Not Squeeze The Screws Too Much. The Last Three Photos Illustrate How The Piece Is Mounted. This Part Serves As An Axle, And Restricts The Movement Of The Motors From The Mount By Providing A Wall For The Motor To Align. It Is A Work In Progress Because - The Motors Still Move. If You Noticed The Front Part, There Is A Opening With A Hole That Is Aligned With The Front Holes Of The Yellow Motor Box. We Intend To Use A Metal Rod To Pass Between And Hold The Front Holes Of The Motors. We Might Print Another Piece Just To Snap Between And Hold The Motors Securely. To Use The Battery Mount Piece, You Need To Print This One First.
