Monoprice MP Select Mini Side Panel Spacer for Heated Bed Rewiring

Description

Monoprice Mp Select Mini: Simplified No-Drill Heated Bed Rewire Mod With Stock Side Panel By Vdub6127 For The Uninitiated: The Stock Wiring Under The Heated Bed Routes The Wires Through The Top Of The Chasis Of The Mp Select Mini. Over Time Will Cause The Wires To Fray And Wear As They Rub Against The Sides Of Opening. A Common And Perhaps Necessary Modification Is To Route The Wires Externally Around The Back Of The Unit, Allowing Them To Move Freely Without Friction. The Current Solutions For The Heated Bed Rewire (While Very Clever) Struck Me As A Tad "Over-Engineered". My Goal Was To Carry Out The Same Function Of The Modification With Some Other Goals In Mind: - Ease Of Installation - Reuse The Perfectly Good Stock Metal Side Panel And Screws - Avoid Drilling Through The Panel And Voiding Warranty - Minimal Cosmetic Change. Looks Almost Unchanged When Done. - Minimize The Need For More Supplies Such As Wiring Housings, Grommets, Etc. - Most Importantly: Avoid 4 Hours Of Printing An Entirely New Panel. This Design Prints In About 45 Mins I Made This Possible By Designing A 2Mm Spacer Between The Chasis And The Side Panel With A Space That Will Allow The Wires To Pass Through To The Interior. I Found That If The 4 Wires Are Aligned Vertically, They Can Comfortably Squeeze Through A 2Mm Gap In The Side. Rather Than Enclosing The Wires In A Cable Housing, I Just Opted For A Few Evenly-Spaced Zip-Ties. In Lieu Of Printing A "Cable Guide" To Route The Wires From Under The Bed, I Opted For Securing Them Down Using The Old Standby: "Electrical Tape". It Is Assumed That You'Ll Be Printing This On The Mini Itself, Hence The Split Into Two Separate Parts: Front And Back. The Full One-Piece Version Is Also Included. Notes: - Since Only The Sides Of The Print Is Visible, You Can Make This Print As Ugly As You Want And Optimize For Print Speed. I Used 0.2625 Layer Height And It Was Just Fine. - This Mod Does Make It A Bit Harder To Get The Sd Cards In And Out. I Just Use Wifi Or Octoprint, So This Has Not Been Much Of An Issue To Me. When I Do Need To Get It Out I Just Use The Always Nearby Bed-Leveling Allan Wrench To Push It. - The 2Mm Width Seemed To Be Enough Clearance For The Screws To Catch The Threads, But My First Iteration (Which Was 2.5Mm) Had One Screw That Failed To Catch, So It'S Pretty Sensitive To Width Changes. Your Mileage May Vary. - In Case There'S Concern About The Wires Rubbing On The On The Side Panel: On My Printer, This Has Not Been The Case. When The Bed Is Fully Extended, It Has Plenty Of Slack And Does Not Put Any Strain There. Again, Ymmv.
