Anet AM8 310mm Z Axis Mod

Anet AM8 310mm Z Axis Mod

Description

***Huge Credit To Pheneeny'S Awesome Am8 Rebuild Mod, And Simhopp'S Great X Motor And Idler Mounts Which Form The Basis For This Modification*** I Wanted To Maximize The Z Axis On My Am8 Without Having To Buy Longer Extrusions, Smooth Rods, Or Really Any Hardware (You May Need Some More M5 Screws And Nuts Of Your Choice For The Extrusions) And I'Ve Always Been Bothered By The Unused Lengths Of The Rods And Screws At Top And Bottom. So I Made A Raised Bottom Mount For The Smooth Rods, Raised Top Mount, And Modified The X Axis To Put The Lead Screw Nuts On Bottom And Have The Shortest Z Dimension Possible. So Now At The Home Position The Z Screw Nuts Are Only Barely Above The Z Coupler, And At The Top Of The Motion The X Axis Nearly Touches The Top Rod Holder. With These Changes You Can Reach Up To (Depending On Your X Carriage) Up To 310Mm Of Z Build Volume. My Carriage Puts My Nozzle Right About 23Mm Below The Bottom Of The Smooth Rods So If Yours Is Similar You Should Be Able To Get Right About 310Mm Of Z, Or Less Depending On How Much More Of A Gap You Have Than I. The X Idler Keeps Simhopp'S Original Design For The X Belt Tensioner But Should Also Be Compatible With Most Other Tensioners, See His Original Thing For Those Files. The X Motor Piece Has A Mount On The Back For A Long M3 Screw To Serve As Your Z Endstop Adjustment, And The Endstop Is On The Left Motor Mount The Top Z Rod Holders Are Sturdy Enough You Can Ram The Top Of The X Carriage Into Them To Synchronize Your Z Screws To Each Other If You Like. *******This Mod Is Not Compatible With Carriages That Have Stuff Hanging Off The Back******** Such As Bed Probes, Web Cameras, Etc. I Am Not Responsible If You Break Something Off By Going Above The Top Extrusion! Manually Move Everything First To Make Sure You Don'T Have Clearance Issues, And You May Have To Reroute Or Extend Your Wiring, Especially If Yours Doesn'T Already Go Over The Top Extrusion Rather Than Under. As Near As I Can Tell This Mod Is Just As If Not More Sturdy Than The Original Am8 Design. At Least In My Fitting I Had Perfect Spacing Between The Smooth Rods At Top And Bottom So I Don'T Have Any Issues With The Axis Binding Please Forgive The State Of My Wiring, Now That This Mod Is Complete It Is All Going To Be Redone!
