Magnetic Print Bed

Magnetic Print Bed

Description

Since I'Ve Had This A2 Plus Printer, I'Ve Been Printing On Borosilicate Glass Bed And Using Clear Gluestick For Better Adhesion. Most Of The Time, The Prints Would Stick Just Fine. Sometimes, I Would Discover That I Didn'T Have Enough Gluestick Coverage On The Bed And The Prints Would Lift And A Few Times, Break Free While Printing. I'Ve Always Like The Idea Of Easily Removable And Flexible Bed Surface. Of Course You Want The Best Combination Of Bonding Without Lifting The Bed For Large Prints. I'Ve Limited My Print Area To Only Using 210X220 Because Of The Clamps I Use To Secure The Glass To The Bed. I Decided To Take The Leap This Weekend And So Far, I Am Really Glad I Did. To Start, I Ordered These Magnetic Sheets: Https://Www.Amazon.Com/Gp/Product/B003Xnahmc/Ref=Oh_Aui_Detailpage_O00_S00?Ie=Utf8&Psc=1 For The Build Surface, I Am Using These Sheets: Https://Www.Amazon.Com/Gp/Product/B075Jf9Mq8/Ref=Oh_Aui_Search_Detailpage?Ie=Utf8&Psc=1 Right Now, I'M Only Printing Pla And I Only Heat The Bed To 50 Degrees C So I Wasn'T Concerned About Reaching The Critical Demagnetizing Curie Temperature. The Other Important Part Is To Line Up The Polarities Of The Magnetic Sheets So You Can Align The Build Surface Properly Which Was Simple Enough. First Thing I Did Was To Clean All The Old Glue Off The Glass Plate Then Give It A Good Final Cleaning With Rubbing Alcohol. I Cut The Magnetic Sheet To Size And Applied It Onto Cleaned Glass Plate Much Like You Do With Tablet Screen Protectors. I Started With One Corner Then Lined Up One Side And Slowly Peeled Back The Tape Backing While Smoothing Down The Sheet As I Go. I Didn'T Get Any Bubbles Between The Surfaces This Way But If I Did, They Would Have Been Easy To Remove By Using A Pin To Make A Hole And Squeeze Out The Bubble. Next I Stuck Another Magnetic Sheet Directly Onto That Surface Adhesive-Side-Up And Removed-Reapplied It A Few Times To Make Sure The Polarity Was Good And The Magnetic Bond Was Strong. Then I Peeled The Adhesive Backing Completely Off The Magnetic Sheet, And Peeled Only A Corner Of The Backing Of The Build Sheet. I Aligned The Corner To My Print Area And Using The Same Method As Before. Lined Up A Side And Slowly Peeled Off The Backing As I Smoothed Down The Surface. Again, I Didn'T Get Any Bubbles Between The Sheet And Magnet Doing This Way. Last Thing To Do Was To Trim Off Any Excess Material Around The Edges And Trim The Print Surface Down To The Size Of My Actual Printing Area. I Am Very Pleased With The Results. I'Ve Made Over A Dozen Small Prints On This New Surface And So Far Just Over A Weekend And No Glue Stick Needed. The Pla Bonds Really Well To The Surface. I Made Two Removable Sheets So After One Print Completes, I Can Pull That Sheet And Place Another Down To Start Another Print. After Letting The Part Cool Sufficiently, I Can Roll The Prints Right Off It. I Wipe The Surface With Some Rubbing Alcohol Only If I See That I Have Left Fingerprints On The Surface. I Still Have To Test A Large Print To See If The Magnetic Bonding Is Good Enough To Prevent Any Warping Of The Print.
