Z-Mounts with Increased Y-Gap for Box-Frame Prusa i3
Description
For A Standard Prusa I3, The Gap Behind Z-Axis Is Very Tight, So That In My Case The Rear Of The X-Carriage Collides With The Frame As I Try To Move It Out Further Than The Main Cut-Out - Limiting This Way My Maximum Possible Printing Volume. The Same Also Happens If One Tries To Use An Extruder Motor Which Is Longer Than 43Mm. While This Problem Is Easy To Correct For A Single Sheet Frame (Just "Lift" The Corners By Putting Some "Spacer" Between The Z-Mounts And The Frame), The Problem Is More Difficult To Remedy For A Box-Frame, Since Simply "Lifting" The Corners Away From The Xz-Plane Will Also Move The Lateral Screw Holes Away From The Center, Not Leaving Enough (If Any) Space For A Secure Hold Of The Side Screws... For This Reason, I Decided To Make My Own Design Of The Z-Mounts With An Additional Parameter Used To Specify An Extra Y-Gap In Mm. If This Parameter Is 0, The Mounts Will Have The Same Gap As The Prusa'S Original I3 Mounts, Whereas E.G. A Value Of 5 Would Move The Entire Z- And X-Axes 5Mm Further Away From The Box Frame. The Relative Positions Of The Front And Side Screws (Which Are Used To Attach The Mount To The Box-Frame) Are Compatible With The Original Prusa I3 Mounts, So That These New Mounts Can Be Used To Replace The Original Ones Using The Existing Screw Holes. The Provided Scad File Is Fully Parametrized And Can Thus Be Easily Adapted To Any Special Requirement. I Also Include Some "Ready-To-Print" Stl Files For Extra Y-Gaps Between 0Mm And 5Mm And For Box-Frame Board Thicknesses Of 12Mm, 15Mm And 18Mm. *Ps: As You Can See From My Pictures, I Prefer To Use The Z-Mounts "Upside Down" Compared To The Original Prusa I3, So That No Screws Are Hidden Behind The Z-Motors. But Of Course, This Is A Matter Of Taste And You Can My Mounts Just As Well In The "Traditional" Orientation With The Flat Part On Top.* *Update 2014-10-25: I Have Uploaded An Enhanced Version Of The Scad File And Some Stl Files Which Also Include A Holder For A Z-Endstop Slider. On The Left Motor Mount. This Can Be Used With My [Split X-Ends For Prusa I3](Http://Www.Thingiverse.Com/Thing:514582). The Slider Arms Are Taken From My [Sliding Y-Endstop Mount For Prusa I3](Http://Www.Thingiverse.Com/Thing:248080), Where You Can Also Find The Corresponding Scad Source.*
