Printing ABS Without A Heated Bed
Description
After Modeling A Part Using Solid Edge, I Decided That Pla Would Be Too Brittle For My Print. The Part Would Be Exposed To The Elements And Needed To Be Strong. After Doing Some Research, I Concluded That Abs Would Be A Much Better Solution, So I Placed An Order For A Spool Of Abs. I Was Concerned That Printing Abs Without A Heated Bed Would Be Next To Impossible. Most 3D Printer Manufacturers Recommend Printing Abs Only If You Are Using A Heated Bed. After Completing A Few Test Prints, I Realized That It Was Very Possible To Print Abs Without A Heated Bed; So Much So That I Printed Out Over 30 Parts Without Much Effort. Below Are The Settings I Used. Printer: Type A Machines Series 1 Build Platform: Glass With Sanded Painters Tape @ 23 Degrees Celsius Nozzle Temperature: 239 C Nozzle Size: 0.5 Mm Slicer: Simplify 3D Layer Height: 100 Microns Brim: 5 Cm Fyi: Sand The Tape A Lot. If The Print Fails Print Again Asap To Maintain Some Heat On The Build Platform. Update: I Attempted To Do This Again Today With 150 Grit And My Prints Were Failing. I Realized That For My Previous Prints I Used 100 Or 60 Grit. Now I'M Using 60 Grit And My Prints Are Working Again.
