Mesh Map Pocket Frame
Description
I'Ve Been Building A Flight Simulator At Home, And I Needed A Good Place To Stick My Aeronautical Charts, Pilot'S Handbook, Android Tablet, Etc. This Is A Mesh Map Pocket Frame That Can Be Mounted On Any Flat Surface, So You Can Store All Your Goodies In Your Car, Boat, Plane, What-Have-You. There'S One .Stl For The Whole Frame If You Have A Big Enough Printer. Otherwise You Can Use The Three Split Pieces And Join Them With The Dovetail Joint. The Tolerances Are Tight, So A Little Sanding Will Be Necessary. ###Get These Things: - 5 Ft Spool Of 1/16" Diameter Bungee Cord ([Ebay](Http://R.Ebay.Com/Wre0M4)) <Br> - 5X M3 Flat-Style Head Machine Screws/Nuts Or 4-Gauge Wood Screws @ Whatever Length You Need ###Do These Things: 1. Print At Around 0.15-0.25 Mm Layer Height, With At Least 50% Infill (100% Is Better Only Because It'S Easier To Sand If The Fit Is Really Tight). No Rafts, And Use Supports If You'Re Using The Three-Piece Version For The Dovetail Joints. <Br> 2. Loop 1/16" Diameter Bungee Cord To Form Weave Pattern Through The Side Holes. **Leave A Lil' Bit Of Slack.** You Don'T Want Much (If Any) Pulling Tension On The Frame'S Vertical Sides. <Br> 3. Screw Down On Flat Surface, Tighten By Hand (If You'Re Using Wood Screws, Don'T Use A Drill To Do The Finally Tightening Or You Might Crack The Material) <Br> 4. Put Something In It, Smile, And Relish In Your Success. -------------------------- ##Notes: ###Fasteners For The Fasteners, Add 9 Mm To The Depth You Need For Whatever You'Re Fastening The Frame To (Wood, Sheet Metal, Etc). The Frame Is 9 Mm Thick. For Machine Screws, Don'T Forget To Factor In The Depth Of The Nut In The Total Length. Also Make Sure The Fasteners Have A Flat-Style Head So They Sit Flush. I Used These [Machine Screws From Home Depot](Https://Www.Homedepot.Com/P/The-Hillman-Group-M3-0-5-X-16-Mm-Internal-Hex-Flat-Head-Cap-Screws-20-Pack-44509/204801209) And Matching M3 Nuts, For Mounting Them To A 5Mm-Thick Wood Panel. ###Bungee Cord You Will Need At Least A Meter Or So Of 1/16" Diameter Bungee Cord, Which Can Be Bought In Spools, Usually At 5 Ft Increments. I Used [This 10Ft Spool From Ebay.](Http://R.Ebay.Com/Wre0M4) I'M Assuming You Could Also Use Long Rubber Bands In A Pinch, But Ymmv. The Cord Is Run In One Continuous Loop Through All The Side Holes To Form The Mesh Pattern, With The Ends Tied Together At The Bottom So The Knot Is Hidden. There'S A Number Of 'Weaving' Patterns You Could Use (Similar To The Fancy Shoelace Tying All The Cool Kids Are Doing). I'Ll Eventually Add A Diagram Showing How I Ran The Cord To Form The Pattern. The Tricky Part Is Leaving Enough Uniform Slack So You Can Get Stuff In There Easily, And So The Frame Has Little To No Stress Pulling Inwards. The Process Doesn'T Take Terribly Long Once You Have The Pattern Down, But Will Probably Need Adjustments To Get It Perfect. ###Design & Printing This Is Also My First Design, So Please Let Me Know How It Could Be Improved If You End Up Using It. I Haven'T Had A Chance To Print It Myself Yet, But I Ordered A Print At 0.3 Mm @ 100% Infill And It Came Out Great. It Probably Doesn'T Need To Be Solid, Maybe 50% Would Be Sufficient, As Longs As There'S No Strong Tension On The Cords And It'S Secured Properly. Let Me Know If You Find Better Parameters, I Will Add Some As Soon As I Have A Chance To Test It On My Own Printer. I Designed This In Sketchup, So Feel Free To Modify It To Your Needs Using The .Skp File. You Can Certainly Scale It Down, But Keep In Mind You'Ll Need To Do Some Math To Find Out What Size Fasteners And What Thickness Of Bungee Cord To Get. The Model Was Inspired By [This Map Pocket On Amazon](Http://A.Co/5P0Dmfj), But Larger And With More Holes For The Bungee Cords. I Have No Affiliation With This Product And My Design Was Done By Hand, So Please Don'T Sue Me If That'S Your Map Pocket On Amazon.
